Stephen's Sound Advice

I recently viewed a video that Stephen Colbert made with internet tips for protecting your identity. Stephen Colbert is a comedian and his show is one that "pokes fun" at certain issues. I believe this video was no different. His tips were quite funny and really make you think about the efforts people are having to take to protect themselves. His tips were as follows:

  1. Always type with your nondominant hand. This would do nothing to protect your identity as typewriting offers universal fonts, hence the joke.
  2. Pick the right password, which is in reference to passwords such as, XuFRako89137aqbkh, that some people feel are necessary, when someone would honestly have a very difficult time remembering that password.
  3. Use a different credit card for every purpose because identity theft will occur if you do not.
  4. Defrag your computer, which was something I didn;t find funny because one, I don't know what that is and two, the information Colbert is giving me on what it defragging is, is more than likely false.
  5. Search random topics to "throw off the government/Google/whatever".
  6. Add something to distance yourself from your searches such as, "I am not Stephen Colbert" which is obviously giving himself away.
  7. Protect against virus', by washing your computer once a month.

I found this video entertaining, but not informative. I think if Colbert wants to inform his viewers, he needs to take a look at the direction in which his website is going and most likely his sources.

Google Knows Where I Am

After reading the article about how Google knows everything that I'm doing, I feel a little violated. I mean, isn't the US a "country of freedom"? How can we be a "free" country if our freedom is compromised by those who are "tracking us"? It just doesn't work for me. I feel like our information should only be accessed if we are a suspect for a crime. People exchange a lot of information on the internet, not only our credit information, but our personal life issues as well. I mean, theres nothing I can do about this issue so I will have to grin and bear it but I certainly do not agree with all of my information being accessible to Google.

All About Me

As a 21 year old nursing student, one may think that there is no time for anything but studying! While this may be true on some days, it is not true every day. I was born in December of 1989 in Statesville, NC. I do not have any memories of Statesville because when I was a little over a year old, my family and I moved to Georgetown, Kentucky.
I have many sweet memories of Kentucky. Maybe because I was a small child, and most things from childhood seem so wonderful, but to me, Kentucky was really wonderful. The weather was warm, but not humid and muggy during the summer, the leaves were all colors of red, orange and brown in the fall, in the winter, snow would fall like sugar from the sky, and in the spring flowers would bloom and green would once again return to everything. I remember it would rain around three o'clock every day for ten or fifteen minutes. At least thats what it felt like. I would begin kindergarten in Georgetown but would end the year in North Carolina.
All of my family is from Lincolnton, and in the brink of a divorce, my mother took a new nursing job in Lincolnton. Even though we were an hour from my grandparents and other family members, it was nice to be closer to them. I began school in Lincolnton and would finish out the rest of my childhood and eventually my teenage years in Lincolnton. I was involved with many organizations including Girl Scouts of America, optimist basketball, booster cheerleading, youth group, chorus, high school cheerleading, homecoming and prom court and I also had the honor of being a debutante. All of these things happened before I went to college at UNCC.
After I traveled the short distance from my hometown to Charlotte, I fit in right away! I felt like I was on top of the world, living in the big city of Charlotte! I loved it here and I still do! I began school and with school also began Panhellenic Recruitment, or otherwords known as rush. By the end of the week I was a new member in Alpha Delta Pi and my life was never the same. I love my sorority and all of my sisters and I wouldn't be the person I am today without them.
I was most upset about having to leave my sorority when I transferred to Lenoir Rhyne University. However, I had come to a point in my life where I had to decide what was most important to me, my sorority or my career. Ultimately my career won, and I am now happy at LRU, making new friends and getting the education I deserve. I have just begun my journey at LRU but I am enthusiastic about what the school has to offer and can't wait to see where this journey will lead!
A few of my favorite things in life include orchids and gardening. I love to feel like I'm helping the environment and also making my back deck pretty. Flowers are the best pick me up I think! I also love to cook and can often be found in my kitchen. I love to shop, but what girl doesn't? I also like to travel but I haven't done much of that so I will have to get on it! I hope you have enjoyed getting to know me a little better!
